I worked in a large corporate environment for 15 years prior to retraining and qualifying as a counsellor. During this time I discovered a passion to help people grow. There can be times when we feel stuck, unfulfilled or struggle to change aspects of our lives or find we lack the self belief or strength to make change last – this is where I offer support.My theraputic work draws on experience gained from Cruse in bereavement support, Couple Counselling Lothian, where I supported work in whether relationships in difficulty or coming to an end or simply working to strengthen a partnership. I am currently involved in Occupational Health work for a large local organisation and private work with individuals and offer workshops in stress management and wellbeing to organisations. I trained to be a mentor with Edinburgh Volunteer Centre – supporting individuals back into employment and facilitate a monthly support group in Falkirk for women with secondary breast cancer.
I also provide training for Training for Care Scotland on bereavement awareness.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) regulated by their professional code of conduct and work within their code of ethics. I have also trained in stress management, facilitation and cognitive behavioural therapy.
In counselling I work an integarative approach, and where appropriate can work within a brief therapy framework meeting clients every 2-3 weeks, sometimes with a greater gap allowing for change to settle with the support in the background. A person centred base is supported with CBT techniques. I believe that each of us have the ability within ourselves to adapt and change. This can often get lost in times of anxiety, confusion or stress.
I can offer counselling across a broad range of areas, some of which include:
